Zetan's Choice Cuts

Current Choice Cuts
  • Biffy Clyro - Puzzle
  • The album features the singles 'semi-mental', 'Saturday Superhouse', 'Folding Stars', 'Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies' and previous UK & ireland single 'Machines'.
  • Kamelot - Ghost Opera
  • Kamelot is one of metal’s most unique, influential and prestigious acts to come along in decades. The group’s reputation among fans and media alike is marked by enthusiasm as well as esteem, each of their seven studio albums to date surpassing its predecessor in terms of songwriting and production. As one of the most difficult-to-categorise artists on the metal scene, Kamelot are poised to assault the planet with their most insightful and ambitious project to date, Ghost Opera. Ready to continue their ascension to the pinnacle of metal royalty, founding guitarist Thomas Youngblood, bassist Glenn Barry, new keyboardist Oliver Palotai and drummer Casey Grillo join lead singer Roy Khan to complete this journey to systematically alter the face of metal. Throughout the recent years, their releases have achieved cult status around the world. Ghost Opera will once again raise the bar for others to follow.
  • Kreator - Hoards of Chaos
  • Combine extreme music with an edgy, biting implacability, complement it with politically motivated lyrics that have a distinct tendency to point the finger at grievances and aren't afraid of exposing abhorrent facts, and you just might get a sense of the pandemonium of sounds on Hordes of Chaos, the latest recording by Germany's cult thrash metal act, Kreator, scheduled for release on Steamhammer/SPV on 19 January 2009 (Germany: 16 January, US: late January). Even in 2009, the band prove themselves to be unusually innovative and a step ahead of the game, always ready to pursue new ideas and treat themselves and their fans to maximum authenticity. Frontman Mille Petrozza, along with drummer Jürgen 'Ventor' Reil, bassist Christian Giesler and guitarist Sami Yli-Sirniö, recorded ten hard-as-nails tracks in the summer of 2008, songs with a persistent and unmistakable message - Kreator are experts when it comes to pure, unadulterated thrash metal..
  • NAPALM DEATH - Time Waits For No Slave
  • 27 years of grindcore ultra-violence, 27 years of being one of the hardest working, hardest touring bands on this miserable planet, NAPALM DEATH’s conviction, energy and belief in spontaneoust, outspoken yet extreme music is far from being watered down. “Time Waits For No Slave”, the band’s 13th studio album (excluding the cover album “Leaders Not Followers Pt.2”) marks no exception – as long as this is a world gone wrong, NAPALM DEATH will be utilizing their artistic arsenal to attack those in charge, no matter if their fanaticism stems from a political, religious or simply greedy motivation.

On “Time Waits For No Slave” the legendary fathers of grindcore explore fundamental aspects of our so-called modern life and point out that ideas of servitude are still existent in the allegedly tolerant, liberal society we live in. Despite the old cliché that “we are living in the 21st century” for one thing, women are still sneered at, treated like second-class citizens and viewed in some quarters as baby machines rather than beings in their own right. Giving up our own ideals, wishes and desires to fit into the all too tight conventions still prevalent today might be a very general sounding subject, but the question is: if our freedom is true to the meaning of the word, this is something that affects us all!
  • Exhumed - Slaughtercult
  • Exhumed was formed in 1991 by Matt Harvey and Col Jones. Throughout the ensuing years, the band morphed line-ups while continuing to hone their own brand of grinding Death Metal, influenced initially by Napalm Death, Repulsion, Carcass, Carnage, Terrorizer, Impetigo, Death, Autopsy, Master, Pestilence, and other late ‘80s / early ‘90s underground favorites. By 1994, Exhumed had begun incorporating influences from Thrash and Crossover into their songs and the “Gore Metal” sound began to take shape. In 1996 the band's portion of the “In The Name Of Gore” split disc with Hemdale was recorded, which led to a European tour and a deal with Relapse the following year.

xx Slayer [Video Thread]
May 12, 2009, 09:00:03 AM by Zetan
I've heard some describe Slayer as defining the genre, in that.. if there was one band to sum up metal, Slayer would be it. Well, I'm not sure about that, there are many that could "define" the genre, but Slayer brought a darker, lurking.. evil sound to their music when they debuted in 1983 with Show No Mercy.

I thought I'd kicked off the Slayer thread with the classic title track from their 1988 album:

xx Soulfly - Chinnerys gig
June 08, 2009, 09:41:23 AM by Zetan

This is the hottest topic amongst metal heads round our yard right now, Soulfly playing Chinnerys! Thats like Metallica or Iron Maiden playing in the pub at the end of your street... in Antartica! Ok, slight exageration. But it's a big event. We've had a drought the last 10 - 15 years, though we do have quite a history of big name bands playing in our Sea Side town (we also have the longest pleasure pier in the world, thats our claim to fame!).

Amongst the bands who have played here, you can count: Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Motorhead (Playing again in November at ...... Read More

xx Download Festival 2009
April 30, 2009, 03:53:01 PM by Zetan
There isn't really much these days for me to get excited about when it comes to the Download Festival. In fact, I haven't been near the place, Donnington arena, since Monsters Of Rock was last held there. Oh, there's been countless times I've wanted to see some of the bands in recent lineups, but none really tempt me enough to fork out the cash, hole up in my trusty tent and have my sleep disturbed all weekend.. I'm getting old, I can't be bothered. To be honest, most of the time I'd rather see select bands at smaller venues, or go to a huge dedicated metal fest.. Wacken, Bloodstock.. etc.

Am I tempted this year?.. well, maybe.

Firstly there's the news that one of my all time fav bands of all time, Faith No More, headlining the Friday. Which garners a few questions in itself, seeing as I tried to launch a pertition for them to get back together and record a new album a few years back. Headlining a festival in England ...... A Swedish court has found four men behind the BitTorrent tracker the Pirate Bay guilty of assisting in making copyrighted material available and sentenced each of them to a year in jail. xx Behind Crimson Eyes - Self Titled
March 29, 2009, 09:59:03 AM by Mattman
Behind Crimson Eyes are on a mission…

Having spent the last 12-months focusing on writing and recording their soon to be released sophomore album, Behind Crimson Eyes have managed to squeeze in national tours alongside rock and heavy greats; Disturbed, Bullet For My Valentine and Iron Maiden, as well as an East Coast run on the Big Day Out tour.

In anticipation of the follow up to their 2006 debut - A Revelation For Despair - Behind
Crimson Eyes are hitting the road for themselves once again. This time in aid of Addicted, the first of many new tracks from the upcoming release. In the process of writing for the new album they uncovered a few truths about themselves.

The result is the light to A Revelation For Despair’s dark. A contrast. A realization that raw honesty does not always manifest ...... Read More

xx Iron Maiden 'fans' riot in Colombia
March 12, 2009, 12:36:22 PM by Zetan
Police in Colombia's capital city, Bogota, arrested 111 people before an Iron Maiden concert this past Saturday (March 7) after a riot broke out.

According to a report by the BBC, 'fans' who could not get tickets to the 25,000-capacity sold-out show at the city's Simon Bolivar Park broke into the venue before the concert and began pelting police officers with rocks.

A police spokesperson described the ensuing scuffles, which left one officer in need of reconstructive facial surgery, as "embarrassing acts perpetrated by a group of malcontents who wanted to enter without tickets". This morning, more than 40 people remain in police custody.

Iron Maiden, who are currently on the South American leg of their Somewhere Back In Time tour, are yet to comment. Columbian authorities are currently debating whether any more heavy metal concerts will be allowed to be hosted in the county in the future.

xx New Static-X Album due for release: Cult Of Static [More.. Stingwray video]
March 07, 2009, 10:32:27 AM by Zetan
The Industrial Metal Machine called Static-X returns with their heaviest, most flammable work to date. CULT OF STATIC, on Reprise Records, marries the band's aggressive driving force with disarming experimentatio n.

The fiery raw quality of CULT OF STATIC is blatant as the first single “Stingwray” hits airwaves February 14th. “Stingwray” was inspired by Wayne Static’s wife Tera Wray Static and the Corvette Stingray she drives. The song’s powerful beats and heavy guitar riffs make this song a commanding force on the record.

Keeping the integral tones, Static-X encompasses shredding guitars with solos that have brought the band to a level of playing to be reckoned with. The cybernetic stomp of "Hypure" and "You Am I" ...... Read More
